In 1999 Danny Hay completed a dream move to then Premier League heavyweights Leeds United training and playing with Rio Ferdiand, David Batty, Jonathan Woodgate, and Harry Kewell. He made his debut for the club in front of 90,000 against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the UEFA Champions League, played against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and in a remarkable 4-3 win over Liverpool when Mark Viduka scoring all four goals. Ultimately his body never let him reach the levels he would have liked.

We talk about the highs and lows of his international career. Captaining his country, taking on Brazil and marking Ronaldo, but missing out on the Confederations Cup in 1999 and the disappointment of the 2003 tournament. In fact, he retired twice from the national team.

He has graduated to the technical area via schoolboys football before leading Eastern Suburbs to their first national title in 48 years in 2019 and was soon after was named All Whites coach. We talk coaching, his philosophies, influences and what makes him different as an All Whites coach and what the next 12 months might look like.
